Various causes, and treatment for sudden hearing loss

Sudden hearing loss contains numerous several causes. The common cause is like cold. It can cause a blockage and a buildup a ear wax in the ear on inner side. The wax can turn impacted by blocking the way of the waves sent to the brain. The output is not permanent hearing loss. It is a simple one to treat and be solved naturally and you need not want to use any steroids or antibiotics. This problem must not be treated with any implement or cotton swabs which you adhere in the ear. It can create the issue worse through pushing the compacted ear wax down the canal and make damage permanently. The sudden hearing loss also includes with ear issues like noise induced loss in hearing. This problem can be caused on listening to the music which is loud or by a noisy bang. When dealing in the noisy surroundings, it is also better to use ear protection. It is because loud noises in the continuous course of time can result to damage your ears permanently. The ear drum which is perforated can lead to noise induced loss in hearing. Ears are sensitive and have many tiny parts; every part has to perform in harmony for hearing to be effective. The tiny parts can be destroyed easily and affected through the things such as foreign objectives and toxins.

Sometime malnutrition can also cause sudden hearing loss. Eating wrong things and not consuming the healthy nutrients can result the tiny bones to become degraded and not like good at sending sound waves properly. Sudden hearing loss can occur in hours or days. Most of the medical professional says that this kind of problem of frequent people with the age group of 30 to 60. The status may be severe or mild and may affect different parts of the frequency range in hearing. Sudden hearing loss can be permanent or temporary. There are two kinds of sudden hearing loss like sudden sensorineural hearing and sudden conductive. Both the condition will be solved in different ways because they are with the feature of various natures. The conductive status is simple to identify and solve and are hence not regarded as emergency in the medical field. But the sudden sensorinural condition is the emergency one and the patients who are suffering from this problem want to consult the neurologist or otologist. It may occur in three days and the patient will lose the hearing ability above 30DB like seen on the audiogram.

Most of the patients reported symptoms like fever and dizziness when they suffer from this condition. If this is a case, it is highly essential to consult a doctor quickly to receive the necessary assistance and avoid the status from turning worse. The test which are taken by the doctor are acoustic reflex testing, pure tone thresholds, product distortion otoacoustic by the audiometric checking for your doctor to diagnose the patient is suffering from the problem. It also confirms the issue has been caused by the nerves or infection of the ear.

Our ears are complex and are divided into three parts that is the inner, middle and outer ear which results in about four different forms of hearing loss. These losses can develop into potential or myriad problems. It is vital that one visits an audiologist if they stop hearing properly as each problem has its own solution.

The middle ear conducts waves of sound to the inner ear which are then sent to the brain for interpretation. Conductive hearing loss is not a hard problem to correct and can be caused by wax building up in the middle ear or objects like toys been lodged in the ear especially in toddlers. The wax can be removed by candling the ear or using solutions that will dissolve the wax.

Other causes of this form of loss are growths that are not normal or tumors in these two parts of the ear, infection or malformation. Infections are easily fixed with antibiotics but tumors require one to go an operation to correct the problem. In addition, there is the problem with fluid accumulating in the middle section of the ear making it had to hear. This is a common problem in children and is corrected with the use of drainage tubes in the ears.

Inner ear hearing loss is known as sensorineural and is when the parts that send waves of sound to the brain have been damage. The problem can result from diabetes, infections of the inner ear, disease and high fever. Exposure to loud noises for long periods of time makes the inner ear to be damaged; problems of the inner ear may not be reversed but can be improved with a hearing aid.

The problem may not be related directly with the different parts of the ear but the brain. This is referred to as a neurological problem and the use of a hearing aid will not do much. This problem is referred to as the central auditory processing disorder. This is not hearing loss as one will hear well but the brain does not interpret the sounds and it becomes hard for the individual to follow conversations. This problem requires the help of a neurologist and not an audiologist.

A person may suffer from both the sensorineural and conductive hearing loss when there is poor interpretation or conduction of sound. Loud explosions can trigger this problem puncturing the ear drum and damaging the cochlea hair cells. The two problems can cause deafness though the conductive loss can be reversed unlike the sensorineural.

To be really sure what type of hearing loss one has, it is a good idea to visit a doctor as there are some symptoms that are similar in this different problems. It is estimated that the highest percentage of loss of hearing is sesnsorineural related as aging is a contributing factor in the populations of the world. Wherever one is hearing loss should not be ignored and one needs to be checked out when it occurs so as to offer the right kind of treatment.

Understanding Presbycusis

Age and certain other factors can lead to hearing loss in many individuals. Presbycusis is one such health condition that can effect ones hearing ability.

What is Presbycusis?

Ageing brings with it quite a few health problems and a condition that affects the hearing capacity is Presbycusis. Statistics say that about 30-35% of people in the 65 to 75 years age group suffer from this kind of hearing loss and it is further elevated to 40-50% in people who are older than 75 years. The hearing loss is more pronounced in case of high pitched sounds and the same person may be able to hear normal sounds.
This condition can occur in both ears and since the hearing loss is gradual, the affected person may not realize the diminishing in the hearing ability. Presbycusis may also affect people who are more exposed to high volume sounds.

Common Presbycusis symptoms

In Presbycusis, sounds are heard at a lower volume and are less audible. The affected person may experience one or more of the following symptoms-

* Sounds made or speech by others may sound slurred
* It may be difficult to hear or tell apart high pitched sounds
* Difficulty in understanding conversations
* Some sounds may seem to be very loud
* A ringing sound known as tinnitus may occur in one or both ears

Why does Presbycusis occur?

This hearing loss condition is caused by disorders in the auditory nerve. The common cause is due to the changes that occur in the inner ear due to ageing. It has been commonly found to affect the people who are more exposed to loud or repeated sounds on a regular basis. It has been found to be instigated by the loss of hair cells in the inner ear causing the sensory receptors to become dull. Apart from ageing, hereditary factors, underlying related health problems and even certain medications can cause this kind of hearing loss. The underlying health problems which may lead to Presbycusis are diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure or similar conditions. In some cases Presbycusis may also be due to abnormalities of the eardrum or the three ear bones that carry sound waves to the inner ear.

Presbycusis treatment

Presbycusis Treatment

Hearing loss caused by exposure to high volume sounds can be prevented by being aware of the loud sounds and trying to stay away from them. If a person is exposed to sounds like fire arms, airplanes, lawn mowers, loud appliances and machineryon a regular basis then precautions need to be taken to prevent future Presbycusis. Wearing ear plugs or muffs can help to reduce the sound and prevent damage. One should try to reduce excessive exposure to loud sounds both at home and at work and also the amount of time spent in listening to these sounds. Apart from these prevention steps, the treatment that is recommended for people who have Prsebycusis is the use of hearing aid or the use of our hearing loss treatment product: The Hearing Fix. Hearing aids are listening devices that assist better hearing. Speech reading training can also help Presbycusis affected people to understand conversations better.

Presbycusis is an age-related condition that can even occur in people who are over-exposed to loud sounds. Preventing hearing loss from loud sounds can be done by being aware of the situation and using plugs or avoiding such situations completely. Use of hearing aids or The Hearing Fix can possibly help affected persons to hear better and reduce the effects of Presbycusis.

Some of The Different Types of Hearing Loss

There are various types of hearing loss and they are determined by the affected hearing pathway. For classifying the affected part, a specialist will localize the exact location and this further helps in classifying the right category. This determination is considered the most vital step in finding the appropriate treatment for the hearing problem.

Different types of hearing loss are:

1.Conductive hearing loss

2. Central hearing loss

3. Sensorineural hearing loss

4. Functional hearing loss

5. Mixed hearing loss

1. Conductive Hearing Loss

This hearing loss occurs due to any condition that interferes in the transmission of sound from outer and middle year to the inner ear. This type of hearing loss can be treated easily in most of the cases.

In this hearing loss, sound waves fail to reach the inner year due to interference in:

• The mobility of eardrum
• The middle ear cavity
• The external ear wall
• The openings in the inner ear
• The mobility problems in the eardrum

2. Central Hearing Loss

In this hearing loss, the main problem is in the central nervous system, present at some point within the brain. I this hearing loss, it becomes difficult for the suffering person to interpret speech. Many people can perfectly hear what is being said, but won’t understand or interpret what is being said. Although now there is considerable information available on central hearing loss, but still it is somewhat a mystery in otology.
A condition known as central auditory processing disorder often leads people to think that they have some kind of hearing loss when in reality their hearing power is normal. Despite the fact that this problem is very common and is there in several people, it is now classified as kind of learning disability.

In this hearing loss, basically the suffering person faces difficulty in filtering out competing auditory signals. People with central auditory processing disorder face many difficulties including:

• Difficulty in studying and reading with television and radio on
• Problems in comprehending when several conversations are going on
• Difficulty in reading when some person turns on air conditioner or vacuum cleaner near them
• Generally they miss out on the first sentence from all those who talk to them while they are involved in some auditory attention task (watching television)

There is no specific treatment than educating the suffering person, his or her family, and friends. This is important for kids, whose grades may even go from F to A if they are provide with a silent place to do their homework.

3. Sensorineural Hearing Loss

In this hearing loss, the damage occurs in the acoustic nerve or inner part of the ear, or both. Many physicians also refer to this condition as “nerve deafness”.

There are about 30,000 hearing never endings (hair cells) in cochlea. There are hair cells present in the larger end of the cochlea and they respond well to all high-pitched sounds. On the other hand, all those present in the small end, respond well to the low-pitched sounds. Most of these hair cells and the nerves that connect them further to brain get damaged, leading to hearing loss.

4. Functional Hearing Loss

This hearing loss involves emotional or psychological problem, rather than any physical damage to the hearing pathway of the person. People with this type of hearing loss often do not seem to hear anything, yet in reality, they have normal hearing power.

Therefore, it is a challenge for most physicians to classify this condition in a proper way. It is difficult to classify the specific emotional cause, but if this classification is made in an accurate way, then proper therapy can begin.

In most of the cases, functional hearing loss is not recognized, and people continue to receive useless treatment for prolonged periods. This may sometimes aggravate the emotional element, and person may become more resistant to the treatment.

5. Mixed Hearing Loss

In many cases, a person may experience two or more types of hearing losses, and this is termed as mixed hearing loss. Mixed hearing loss occurs when both sensorineural and conductive hearing losses are there in the same ear. However, the main emphasis is on the conductive hearing loss because of the availability of highly effective therapy for this disorder. Peopel experiencing this heraing loss reposnd well to the treatment.

Hearing impairment is one of the most common birth defect. Even when it is not a birth defect,
one in every three people do undergo some kind of such problems in their life. The commonly
encountered issues may include defects due to the damage to the ear canal, issues with your ear
drum, impacted wax or wounds, damage to the middle ear bones, or the most difficult issue to set
right –deterioration of the inner cochlear hair. While most of these issues can be set right by using
appropriate medicines and/or minor surgeries, in some cases the damage may be more severe and
hence may necessitate the usage of external aids such as a general hearing device to ensure you
hear everything clearly and properly.

Hearing aids are generally of two types, an analog type, and the more popularly used digital
machine. While the analog device merely picks up the sound and amplifies it before sending it
inwards, its biggest drawback is that it amplifies all sounds equally which may be undesirable since a
person usually hears sounds of some frequencies better than the others. This was a direct reason for
the increased acceptance of the digital devices in which the sound frequencies are broken down into
different bands or channels that allow you to alter the frequencies suitably as per requirement. This
ensures that you need to amplify only those frequencies that are hard to register for you.

The normal hearing aids often vary in size. It is a widely considered fact that the larger your device
size the greater would be the amplification produced. The most common of these is the Behind the
ear machine in which the body is put behind the ear along with the receiver, the sound once passing
through this contraception is passed to the inner ear with the help of a thin plastic tube. A better
variation of these things is a in the ear device, these generally are less stronger than a behind-the
ear machine and produce a markedly lesser amplification of sound, but the plus point is that they
are practically invisible once you put them in your ear. An in the canal hearing aid goes into the canal
and is again used only for mild hearing problems.

Somewhere in between these varieties come the more sophisticated Receivers in canal (RIC) and
Receiver in the ear (RITE) hearing devices. These devices are partially similar in structure to the
behind the ear hearing aids, the main housing of the hearing aid is put behind the ear while the
receiver can be put in the canal (for RIC) or just on the tip of the ear (for RITE) . These are strong
machines that may be used for severe hearing losses while having the flexibility of a reduced size.

All of these assistive hearing aids come with a regulator which allows you to increase the volume of
the sound at will. So pick out the hearing aid that you think is best for you, but first: check for ear
wax.

However, it is important to know your goals, needs and financial capability so as to get the right type of hearing aid. For instance, standard hearing aids have been in the market for years. They are easy to use, have volume control systems and are cheaper compared to other aids. On the other hand, digital hearing aids use an advanced digital sound processing technology that helps to eliminate background noises. As a result, it allows you to hear clear sounds and is a bit costly.

Hearing aid style

When buying a hearing aid, style is a crucial factor to consider. There is no doubt hearing aids are manufactured in a way that collects sounds from within to your ear. However, each aid varies in style. Some are small and invisible while some fit in the ear canal. The style of a hearing aid determines its efficacy. For instance, a small hearing aid is less powerful and vice versa. Therefore, take time to familiarize yourself with different hearing aids styles so as to get an ideal option for your needs. They include the following:

In the canal hearing aids

Completely in the canal hearing aids

Half shelf hearing aids

Full shell hearing aids

Behind the ear hearing aids

Each of these has different features and you can only settle for the right style by getting an expert’s advice and learning more of the products online.

Warranty

When buying a hearing aid, it is also important to inquire whether a product comes with a warranty or not. A product that comes with a warranty is the best to settle for. The warranty should however cover possible repairs, fit problems and even loss. Ensure to inquire on the details of a warranty and purchase a product that is beneficial to you. What’s more, learn of any changes including whether you can extend a warranty or not. It is additionally important to ask on upgrading policies when buying an aid. This is because medical field is always embracing advanced technologies and you may need to upgrade to an advanced aid in the near future.

Benefits of Hearing aid reviews

Hearing aids come in handy and so are their reviews. There are many expert reviews online and it is wise to make the most of reviews. Each aid is designed differently, made of different materials, functions differently and suit patients with different hearing problems. Going through a product review allows you to make wise and informed choices when making a purchase. As a result, you will be able to get an ideal product and at the most affordable price.

Selecting hearing aids the proper way

When you start experiencing problems with your hearing and no longer find joy in hearing sound as you used to, using hearing aids will improve your capabilities considerably. There are different types of hearing aids in the market and if you step into the market blindly, there is a high possibility you will make some grave mistakes. For this reason, you need to consider the following essential considerations before making your choice.

Styles

Hearing loss level is what determines the suitability of the hearing aid style. Though this is the case, the diversity that is currently available in the market makes it possible for individuals from different walks of life to choose the style that works best for their individual needs. For instance, a CIC model, – Completely in the Canal- will not be of benefit to individuals suffering from severe cases of hearing loss. This is known as the smallest style and model in the market and has the ability of enhancing natural sound. It comes in handy where hearing loss is minimal.

ITE-In the Ear- option however, offers a variety of options and can be used by people suffering from different levels of hearing loss. These are larger in size and they also have amplifiers. Additionally, they come with other features such as telephone switch and they are easier to manage. The last style is known as BTE-Behind the Ear-and the features are placed behind the ear. They are ideal for children with hearing problems and this is because of their sturdy body. The BTE also comes in varying colors that match skin tone and hair color.

Cost

The hearing aids prices vary from one model to another and this is what sets the aids apart. In this case, the hearing aids prices are influenced by several factors such as features, style, accessories, telephone coils, insurance coverage, warranty and the number of hearing aids you intend to purchase. There are different dealers offering hearing aids and because of this fact, it is increasingly easy to find cheap hearing aids. As a buyer, there are a couple of things you need to consider in order to accomplish this end. Some of these include the following.

For starters, you have to determine the average hearing aids prices by comparing the type of deals offered by different online stores.

There are some stores which are known to offer discount hearing aids and you should capitalize on these in order to get the most affordable deals.

You have to determine the features and benefits of the hearing aids before making your purchase. This is for the purpose of ensuring that you do not merely settle for cheap hearing aids that do not meet your specific needs.

Technology

When shopping for hearing aids, you have to consider the type of technology used to design it regardless of whether it is cheap or not. In this case, note that basic analog has the ability of providing the same amplification despite of any sound changes made. A large percentage of those who use analog hearing aids complain that they either get high sounds or not enough. While this is the case, these are ranked among the cheapest hearing aids and as such, ideal for those working on a tight budget. What is more, it is also possible to get some discount hearing aids from this category.

Programmable technology is the next set and in this case, the aids come with some additional settings. These settings can be changed through use of remote control or a button placed on the hearing aid to the desired level. Luckily for individuals with hearing problems, technology has come a long way from what it used to be in the past. Currently, there are digital hearing aids and these utilize computer chips. These are known to separate the incoming sounds from channels and bands. In essence, these are known as the most reliable hearing aids in the market.

Where to Shop

When considering the possibility of buying hearing aids, most people are put off by assumed high costs. However, this should not be the case since it is possible to get discount hearing aids. As a patient, you might decide to purchase hearing aids from hearing aid dispenser or an instrument manufacturer. There are several companies that market their products online and they have a reputation for offering discount hearing aids. What is more, through use of the internet, it is considerably easy to find sites that offer cheap hearing aids.

Move with Caution

However, you have to move with caution when buying these and especially when buying cheap hearing aids. In this regard, it is recommended that you shop around and compare different options before making your pick. Look at your hearing needs and the budget you have at hand before making your pick and settling on investing in any of the hearing aids. You should also check out the company that manufactures the hearing aids for the purpose of ensuring that you get value for your money.

Always Read Hearing Aids Reviews

This is another aspect that cannot be overly stressed when shopping for hearing aids. When you browse online, you will come across numerous hearing aids reviews and yet, you tend to overlook this. However, if you want to get the most out of the purchase you make, you must take time to read the hearing aids reviews and compare what customers have to say before making your decision. Look at the online shop where you are making the purchase from to see if they have published any hearing aids reviews online.

Before settling down to buy any of the hearing aids, it is advisable to consult with a physician first. This is important as it ensures that the problem at hand is diagnosed appropriately and ensures that there is no risk of getting inappropriate hearing aids. You should not rush to buy any cheap hearing aids without confirming with your physician and getting the best solution for your individual needs. What is more, with the option of buying discount hearing aids, chances of getting the perfect solution for your needs are heightened.

Hearing Aids Prices and the factors that influence them

Hearing loss can occur at any age and when least expected. It is a devastating thing as it changes someone’s life. It means one cannot communicate efficiently since you cannot hear what the other person is saying. Sign language can be used although it does not solve the problem. The good thing is that the world is embracing advanced technologies in every field. Medical field is not an exception. Therefore, patients with hearing problems can now communicate and lead a normal life. Hearing aids are special aids that have been designed to improve your hearing. They come in a wide range of styles, types and sizes. Additionally, they are sold at different prices and there are many reasons that determine these prices. Understanding these factors will enable you to purchase hearing aid that suits your needs best and at the most affordable price.

Analog and digital hearing aids

Medical field is always embracing advanced technologies. Such advancements allows for delivery of quality medical care. In yester years, hearing aids did not have digital processors. Today, most aids have them. However, analog hearing aids still exist in the market and this is one of the factors that you should always consider when buying an aid. A digital hearing aid is very effective and collects clear sounds from within to your ears. Therefore, patients do not strain when conversing with someone else. Such aids also have the best sound quality. However, a digital aid is more costly than an analog aid. It is recommendable for the best possible results when addressing hearing loss.

Features of hearing aids

Hearing aids come in handy in the market. Each hearing aid is designed differently and has different features. An aid that is rich in features collects clear sounds from your environment and allows for enhanced comfort. What’s more, most features incorporated in hearing aids are custom made to allow for safe and efficient use of the product. This means that a product with many advanced features such as sound technology features allows you to converse comfortably in the midst of a crowd, a noisy environment as well in a meeting. Such a product is costly compared to an aid with few features. It is however recommendable to settle for a product that is of the finest quality and allows for proper hearing than investing, in a cheap product that does not meet your needs.

Style of a hearing aid

Hearing aids come in a wide range of styles. They include behind the ear, completely in the canal, full shell, half shelf hearing aids, open fit and in the canal hearing aids. Each of these aids is available at a different price owing to the ease of use and efficiency. For instance, completely in the canal hearing aids come at a higher price. It is small in size and collects clear sounds. Larger models on the other such as full shell hearing aids are large in size and come at a cheaper price. Therefore, before you purchase any hearing aid, take time to familiarize yourself with each style, understand its pros and cons and settle for an ideal product. Comparing prices of different aids allows you to settle for quality and cheap hearing aids that will enable you to converse comfortably whenever and wherever.

Hearing aids dealers

When buying a hearing aid, it is always recommendable to choose a dealer wisely. There are many dealers in the market today and not all of them guarantee professional services. It is possible to find that those selling the cheapest and low quality devices are less professional in their work. On the other, dealers that offer products of the finest quality and dealers that offer professional services in every aspect guarantee reliable aids.

A professional will always consult with a patient, go through hearing loss results and makes suggestions on an aid that suits your needs as well as your lifestyle. For this reason, take time to find well reputed dealers with the best professional services before making a purchase. Such professional go an extra mile to carry out a hearing and listening test for more efficiency. The products they offer will cost a higher amount and is worth your investment for enhanced safety and comfort when using the aid.

Battery life

A battery plays a crucial role in determining Hearing aids prices. A hearing aid with a battery that lasts for long often costs a higher price. This is attributed to the fact that the battery can be used efficiently for a long period of time. On the other hand, a battery with a short life is relatively cheaper. Therefore, consider your personal needs and settle for a product that will serve your needs best.

Extra features

Additionally, hearing aids may come with additional features. Such features include repair warranties, professional services for a stated period of time, hearing aid batteries, hearing aid sound adjustment features and regular specialist follow up. A product that comes with these features helps to provide the best possible results and helps to improve hearing loss. However, it means that you will have to part with extra cash. It is worth settling for an aid that comes with additional features for added benefits. This is because each extra has a different purpose and helps you to converse comfortably. Therefore take time to find a product with additional features that serve your needs best.

Discount hearing aids

There are many dealers online and offline who offer huge discounts on hearing aids. Discounted products are relatively cheaper. Even so, ensure to get offers from reputed, well experienced and professional dealers for the best possible results. Additionally, it is essential to make the most of Hearing aid reviews. Expert reviews online are very beneficial. This is because reviews discuss each product in detail including its pros, cons, efficiency and the costs. Utilizing these reviews allows you to settle for an ideal aid and at a price that suits your budget. Many expert reviews quote prices and you can always compare them and get the best price in the market.

Some of The Many Causes of Hearing Loss

You will be surprised to know that hearing problems and even complete hearing loss is quickly catching on to become one of the commonest problems being faced by people across the world. With louder rock concerts, heavier music in parties and pubs, and the ubiquitous iPods and iPhones, our ears are being taxed more than ever. This is slowly and surely putting people at the risk of facing hearing loss. However, there is no problem that does not have a solution. This article lists some really basic pointers that you should keep in mind if you want to prevent your hearing abilities to get damaged.

1. Old age (presbycusis)

With old age, our senses also stop performing properly. Presbycusis is the condition of age related hearing loss. A common problem, the National Institutes of Health estimates that one-third of Americans between the ages of 65 and 75 suffer from some level of hearing loss. Treating presbycusis is difficult because it happens over a long period of time and the sufferer often doesn’t realize of his/her hearing problem. Gradually, when conversations start becoming muffled and one has to strain to hear voices, one realizes of the gravity of the problem. Treating this problem usually involves taking a proper diet and medical drugs.

2. Loud music

After old age, loud noisy music is the most common cause of hearing loss. Prolonged exposure to loud sounds and music can damage the fine hairs and nerve cells present in the cochlea, the part of ear which transmits sounds to the brain, and cause hearing problems. If damaged beyond a certain limit, sensorineural hearing loss is induced and this unfortunately for music lovers, is permanent. According to a study in the Journal of American Health, experts have predicted that almost 50 million Americans will suffer from hearing loss due to loud music 2050. If you spend the entire day with earphones plugged in your ears listening to Kanye West, then you’re inviting trouble to your ears. For those who are above the age of 50, they would be doing a smart thing by not exposing their aging ears to loud music.

3. Otosclerosis

Otosclerosis is an ordinary genetic problem in which conductive hearing loss occurs due to new bone being formed around the bones (mostly stirrup) in the middle ear. This usually prevents sounds from getting transmitted from the ear drum to the inner ear, resulting in total or partial hearing loss. Luckily, this kind of hearing impairment can be fixed through a surgical procedure known as Stapedectomy. A relatively short procedure, many people get back their normal hearing ability after undergoing a stapedectomy.

4. Ear infections

Otitis Externa (Swimmer’s Ear) and Otitis Media (Middle Ear) are two of the most common ear infections which cause hearing problems and sometime, even deafness in adults. Otitis Externa, as is evident from the name itself, is an ear infection which happens due to polluted swimming pool water being lodged in the middle ear, enabling germs to cause infections such as pus. Itchiness, redness, flakiness, pain when moving the head or touching the ear are all symptoms of Swimmer’s ear. Though ear infections rarely cause deafness, long-term issues such as continual fluids in the middle ear and frequent infections can induce hearing problems and other serious complications.

5. Tumors and Birth Defects

Two more causes which, in 9 cases out of 10, is beyond human control. The first is tumors in the middle or inner ear which prevent effective hearing. Cancerous tumors such as rhabdomyosarcoma have been reported to cause hearing loss. However, it is a rare condition. Neuromas of the facial nerve and Glomus tumors are two types of non-cancerous tumors responsible for hearing loss. Several children are born with birth defects such as deformed ears, or parts in the inner and middle ears which may lead to a hearing impairment known as conductive hearing loss where sound is not properly transmitted to the inner ear. A majority of cases involving conductive hearing loss are surgically treatable.

6. Diabetes

Very recently, the Detroit-based Henry Ford Hospital published a study on the connection between diabetes and hearing loss. They studied the hearing ability of women who were between 60 and 75 years old and found out that those with well handled diabetes were better listeners than those inadequately controlled diabetes. However, men had surprisingly bad hearing problems irrespective of the fact whether they had diabetes or not. Derek Handzo, a doctor at the Dept. Of Head and Neck Surgery said: “Hearing loss is often accelerated in those whose blood-glucose sugar levels are not regulated. This study points out the importance of patients controlling their diabetes to prevent hearing problems, especially as they age.”

7. Neurological disorders

Apart from environment-related (loud noise) and lifestyle-related (unhealthy habits, diabetes, etc), another major cause of deafness is due faulty nerves. Multiple sclerosis (MS), acoustic neuroma and autoimmune sensorineural hearing loss are three quite frequent nerve-related disorders which cause deafness in a number of adults across the world. The treatments vary from prescription drugs to surgery and complete recovery of hearing ability is rare in these cases.

Treatments available for Hearing Loss

Currently, surgical procedures which aim to remove obstructions in the ear canal and cochlea are the most effective methods for treating deafness. However, they can only be used for taking care of conductive hearing loss. In many cases, cochlear implants are used to treat sensorineural hearing loss. Nevertheless, most people find comfort by using hearing aids which augment the sounds reaching the inner ear, resulting in better hearing.

Continual advances in medical science are enabling more and more people to be able to appreciate the beautiful sounds in this world. But some things are still not in your hand such as birth defects, tumours or abnormal bone growth. On the other hand, preventing deafness by keeping good care of your ears is in your hands. Listen to soft music, protect your ears and keep them clean. You are lucky to have the gift of hearing for a long time to come.

The Importance of Hearing Aids: Popular Hearing Aids Brands

Hearing aids are tools which help those with hearing loss. The sense of hearing is one of the most important abilities of a human being. Imagining the world without these sounds can be no less than a nightmare. The sound of tweeting birds every morning, the amazing rhythm of waves hitting the sea shores, children playing in the parks, loved ones cheering on a merry occasion – these are beautiful sounds which one always loves to hear.

How would you feel if suddenly you lose your ability to listen? Indeed you would never wish to be in such a state. Now think about all those individuals who have lost their ability to hear due to some unavoidable reason. Life seems dull for them right? The good news is that there is still hope for those who are suffering from hearing loss. Hearing aids can give those with hearing impairment, their lives back.

Hearing aids – A miraculous technology!

A hearing aid is an electronic invention which enables people suffering from hearing loss to listen by amplifying sound waves to a magnitude which could be easily heard by human ears. There are a number of hearing aids that come in different styles and shapes but the objective is same – facilitate people to hear again.

These hearing aids reviews are classified into 4 main categories with respect to their position on the ear:

BTE or Behind The Ear listening aids

ITE or In The Ear listening aids

ITC or In The Ear Canal hearing aids

CIC or Completely In The Ear listening equipment.

As you can see, they are categorized on the basis of where they are positioned on the ear. Usually, they come in two types of technologies, analog and digital. Analog devices were the first ones to hit the markets but with advances in technology, digital devices started to develop as well. Digital hearing aids provide better functionality as the sound delivered to the receiver is much refined.

Most of the people suffering from hearing loss are those who are above 65 years in age. Hearing aids have become a mandatory need for these elderly people with listening issues. There are a number of hearing aids available in the market, but it is finding the right equipment that holds significance. After all, you do not want to spend your time and money on something that does not work. You need to understand your requirement and to understand this you have to match your needs with the features of the listening device. You want to get something that would enable you to get rid of hearing loss, listen to the news and watch TV comfortably.

How to choose the right hearing aid

The first question that would to come to your mind regarding the features of the best hearing device would be its ability to help you listen. Here is a simple rule of thumb; the best hearing device enhances the comfort of a person suffering from hearing loss. The best hearing aids take care of distortions and noise related issues and automatically amplify the needed sounds. Digital hearing aids function in a different way compared to analog devices; digital listening equipments automatically focus on speech instead of noise and distortion. Latest, state of the art hearing aids have unique features such artificial intelligence, speech intensification, adaptive directionality and feedback cancellation.

It does not matter whether you have the best brand or shape, what matters more is how perfectly the device functions for an individual suffering from hearing loss. It is recommended that you allow an audiologist to assist you during the selection of the hearing aid, this is one way you can get something to match both your needs and pocket. Audiologists have the experience to help you choose the adequate hearing device.

The various hearing aids brands

With so many brands in the market, finding the most suitable brand can become frustrating at times. There are a number of popular and reliable hearing aids brands such as Phonak, Siemens, Beltome, Rexton and Oticon. So far, Siemens is considered the best brand for manufacturing hearing equipment for people suffering from hearing issues. Hearing devices manufactured by Siemens are rated as the best.
Hearing Loss: Common Symptoms and ways to Prevent it

There are several reasons that can cause hearing loss, and one of the most major reasons is hearing loss induced by noise or in other words “Noise induced hearing loss”. One can take precautionary measures to avoid noise induced hearing loss but there is nothing much that can be done once the ears are damaged. A common misconception among people is that one only suffers from hearing loss if he/she is exposed to noise for a long time. FYI, this is not the reality, you can even suffer from hearing loss after a single exposure to loud sound or noise. Do you know how loud noises result into hearing loss? This is primarily due to cells inside the ear getting damaged by loud sounds.

Hearing loss symptoms

Hearing loss symptoms are usually subtle, especially during the early stages when the person seizes to listen to sounds that are high pitched in nature. The volume of sounds change but the intensity and magnitude remains somewhat the same. As time passes, the sound of speech is heard but it gets increasingly difficult to understand it. This is due to the noise in the background, which makes it really difficult for the listener to understand what is being said. A common hearing loss symptom is watching TV or listening to music at a higher volume than before. Normally, these hearing loss symptoms are accompanied by “tinnitus” – a condition of hearing ringing sounds that can be properly treated by taking The Hearing Fix. One can use different measurements to evaluate dangerous levels of sound that can affect the hearing ability of a human. Doctors and hearing experts have devised “scales” that are used to find dangerous levels of sound. The scales are called A scales. There are different situations when individuals are exposed to loud sounds that can turn out to be really dangerous for an individual’s hearing ability. For example, when a person shouts in order to talk to others, this in result allows ringing sounds near the ears. Another dangerous situation is when you are exposed to really loud sounds (rock concerts, pubs, parties, etc). Avoid exposing your ears to such situations because you do not want to hurt your hearing capabilities. These symptoms should be taken care of immediately because ignoring them will ultimately lead you to total hearing loss. Hearing impairment is a huge problem; imagine your life without sound-a total nightmare. Carelessness may be a small word but the repercussions are unimaginable.

Treating hearing loss

When it comes to treating hearing loss, the adage “Prevention is better than cure” is perhaps the most apt. The most recommended method, which your common sense tells you to do, is to safeguard your ears from loud sounds. In case you work in an environment where your ears are always exposed to loud sounds or it is not possible for you to avoid such sounds, you have to make sure that your ears are always protected from noise. However, medical treatments for treating hearing loss, especially noise induced hearing loss, are also available. Initially consulting a certified doctor for treatments is a good idea. Then, you should start protecting your ears using protection equipment. Most people lose their hearing abilities as they grow old, especially when they pass 65 years. But if you look around, you will learn that many children are born with such disabilities, and this is called hearing impairment. With that said we can not recommend The Hearing Fix to children. Although The Hearing Fix is the best available hearing loss treatment currently on the market, it has not been studied for children. Remember that the bodies of children respond differently to medicines compared to adults.

Treating kids affected with hearing impairment

Do you think these kids deserve to spend the rest of their lives with hearing impairment? Do they not have the right to listen to the birds every morning or music? Yes, they do. Children with such problems can be treated if they are sent to an authentic deaf school. Children suffering from a certain level of hearing impairment that can possibly affect them and prevent them from going to a traditional school can now go to these especial schools which function in order to cater children with hearing disabilities. The general name used for such schools is “Deaf school”.

More on Deaf Schools

A number of parents who have kids suffering from hearing loss/impairment send them to regular schools instead of sending them to deaf schools. They should know that these specialized schools offer a wide range of resources such as quieter classrooms to individuals suffering from hearing impairment. The main reason for such actions by parents is that deaf schools are not as recognized as government or public schools. These public or local schools do not offer a lot to children with hearing issues, yet some parents send their kids to these schools. Here is a reality check; these schools are not suitable for kids suffering from hearing loss. Yes of course, the local or public schools offer all the ways to learn but not the resources that are offered at deaf schools, exclusively for children with hearing problems. Deaf schools provide all kinds of lessons and skills to these children and teach them how to communicate even with hearing impairment. It is very important for all the children with hearing disabilities to go to a deaf school once in their life.

In a Nut Shell

Hearing loss or hearing impairment can be treated; some find surgery or others find The Hearing Fix as ways to rectify their problems. But when it comes to treating these problems, these are not the only remedies available. The best and smartest solution is to prevent it from progressing. This might sound astonishing but hearing loss has always been misdiagnosed as a psychological condition. As a result, the problems become worse rather than being cured. It is therefore recommended that you always keep your ears protected and take your family for regular checkups to your doctor in order to detect if hearing impairment exists.

Hearing Aids

Various kinds of hearing aids can be used to help you counter all of the hearing problems that you may have. The usual digital hearing aids that are available in the market today consist of a sound receiving mechanism that is supplemented by an amplifier to increase the sound volume sufficiently. The range of such hearing aids in themselves is very varied and may include devices that can be behind the ear, in the ear or in the canal among others. These may vary in the strength of the signal they generally produce and in the size but apart from that they have the same functionality at their core. Most of these devices come with good sound regulators that may include a mechanism to increase or decrease the volume as per need. You may also additionally change the amount of amplification for sounds of different frequencies. To handle defects to the inner hair a cochlear implant is generally used. These devices are implanted in the inner ear when the hair in the inner part loses its ability to convert sound vibrations into sufficient amount of electrical signals or impulses. A sound processor that is carried with the body converts physical vibrations of the sound waves into digital signals that are further processed into electrical impulses by the implant. Also popularly in use are bone anchored hearing aids that follow the old principles of physics related to sound conduction. These devices are based upon the judgement that sound travels faster through solids as compared to air, moreover there is much lesser sound leakage (loss of sound). These devices are anchored to the back of your head from where they directly transmit the vibrations to the inner part thus passing by the middle and outer regions of the ear. These devices are generally employed when you are suffering from some form of canal damage, or if your bones in the middle ear are damaged beyond reparation. A fourth device is an electroacoustic hearing implant. This is used when you are suffering from partial deafness. In some cases what happens is, that your inner ear is unable to pick up sounds of high frequencies while maintain perfect hearing for sounds of other frequencies. A hearing aid would be inefficient in this case as it would just increase the volume of the sound, so would be a cochlear implant which would merely multiply impulses for the sounds of all frequencies. An electroacoustic device increases the impulses produced for the sounds of higher frequencies thus helping in maintaining the correct sort of balance. Your hearing problems may be varied but as things stand a solution for each one of them exists to some extent. Though complete correction may not be possible in some cases most such problems can be corrected by using these devices mentioned above. Just ensure that you do not end up ignoring a hearing problem thinking you do not have one. Consult an ear specialist and get a specialised solution.

HEARING LOSS

Hearing loss is a very natural phenomenon and is experienced by more than 50% of the people at
some stage of their life or the other. Be it due to the simple accumulation of wax in the canal area
or the deterioration of the hair in the inner ear, the problems may be many but so are the solutions
on offer. The hearing impairments can be said to be of 2 types, one is conduction hear loss which
occurs due to problems in the middle or outer parts of the ear and can mostly be corrected by
usage of appropriate medicines or by undergoing simple surgeries. The other types of hearing loss is
called Sensorinueral hearing loss which occurs as a result of damage to the hair that reduces a direct
reduction in the electrical impulses to be sent forward to your brain.

Numerous implants are available in the market these days that aid you in taking care of your
problem at its root cause. Quick sure fire solutions ensure that you no longer have to get frustrated
with the effort of straining yourself over hearing stuff. In this article I’m going to talk about two
such hearing implants that are popular in the market today. Firstly a Bone anchored hearing aid,
commonly known as BAHA, which is used to counter conductive hearing loss. Post that, I’m going to
talk about a Cochlear implant which assist when a person suffers from Sensorinueral type of hearing
loss.

Hearing Loss Devices

Taking a broad look at things, a sound sometimes does not reach the inner regions of your ear due to obstructions or loss of sound waves due to damage to the middle ear. If the inner ear does not get sufficient vibrations to decipher the sound it would subsequently be unable to pass them forward to the brain. While in most cases it is possible to correct these defects, a BAHA comes into picture when such a problem is irreparable. This is a device that is anchored to the back of your head close behind the ear. What it does is that a sound transmitter initially registers the sound in the form of vibrations and then passes those inwards to your inner ear through the skull. Bones being good conductors of sound are able to conduct the vibrations well to the cochlear area where the hair does its part before passing the information onwards to the brain. This process bypasses the outer and middle ear thus ending your problem altogether. A cochlear implant, when put up in the inner ear goes a long way towards making up for deteriorated hair action in the cochlear area. The sound processor in the device picks up the sound and converts it into a digital signal which is passed to the implant. This implant is capable of supplementing the original weak impulses so that a sound of viable strength may reach your brain. These two together make up for a quite a few of your hearing problems. Sometimes though a simple hearing aid may make up for what little hearing problems you may have.

The three aspects of hearing loss and when to use hearing aids

There are three simple aspects of one’s hearing. Each is uniquely important in its own way and the
mal-performing of any of these any day can cause you hearing problems. Taking a quick look at
how hearing or hearing loss actually works- initially the sound passes through your ear canal and hits the ear drum
which vibrates in response and passes these vibrations to the three bones in your middle ear called
malleus, ossicles and incus. The three bones then pass the sound inwards and this part of sound
propagation is called bone conduction. The hair in the cochlear or inner part of the ear move to
convert these particular vibrations into impulses that are then subsequently sent onwards to the
brain via the audio sensory nerves.

A common ailment may result from accumulation of ear wax which occurs for no reason other than
not cleaning your ears regularly. When left for a long time, this wax can get impacted upon the ear
drum which is equivalent to a solid paper covering thus leading to reduction in your hearing. You
may need to use an ear solution to loosen this impacted wax which may then come out of its own
accord or may need to be flushed out by passing a stream of water (the process is called syringing).

In other cases, the canal passage can sometimes reduce in area which is caused by swelling or
through some allergy. Adequate medicine usually helps you take care of these issues. While
cleaning your ears insure that you do not prod too deep or poke too hard as this may harm your
ear drum. Damage to ear drum is a common ailment often caused by sudden impact to your ears,
or when a short blast of sound hits you. These would also require good medication and possibly a
minor surgery. An ear specialist should be able to help you out over here.

Discrepancies with the bones in the middle ear generally require some tweaking that can only be
done by a specialist. Often impact to the ear due to an accident can cause the bones to move out of
alignment or get damaged. In most cases a minor surgery is the answer but when even that doesn’t
work you may use the right hearing aid.

Apart from all of these come the deterioration of the cochlear hair, this is a gradual process in most
cases and cannot be corrected without a suitable implant.

Numerous implants are available to solve your problems wherever these above specified
alternatives fail. A cochlear implant is the best solution to boost the impulse creation when the
natural hair of the inner ear no longer does the function adequately while a bone anchored

hearing aids is used when the bones are irreparably damaged and this thus bypasses the outer and middle
ear.

Hearing problems are one of the most common natural ailments and the most easily handled as
well, all you need to know is what to do. Do not waste time trying to get used to your condition, get
your customized solution and restore your hearing to its earlier fullness.

Let us take a quick look at how you actually hear things as this will be the first step towards understanding where the problems to your hearing may arise and would consequently help you in determining the best possible way to counter them. Let us see how it goes.

Initially the sound after originating from a source moves towards your ear and makes its way inwards via the ear canal, this part of the sound movement is referred to as air conduction. The sound waves then traverse inwards and hit your ear drum leading to creation of vibrations that initiate the next phase of the sound travel. Behind the ear drum are three small bones called ossicles, malleus and incus which take up these vibrations and pass them inwards to the inner ear. This phase of sound travel is called the bone conduction.

Now the sound has reached the inner ear. The surface of this portion of the ear is lined with millions of tiny hair which move in accordance to the sound produced. The vibrations that reach this place are duly converted into electrical impulses at this juncture and is thus passed onwards to the brain with the help of the audio sensory nerves, and it is after all of this that you hear what you hear.

As you can see that many million little cogs fall in place to keep this wheel rolling and if a problem arises at any step it may lead to markedly reduced hearing. These problems may arise in the form of damage to the ear canal such as the swelling of the passage thus not allowing sound to pass through. For people who do not clean their ears regularly a gradual accumulation of ear wax also occurs on top of the ear drum, it is for this reason that you should clean your ears on a very regular basis. Sudden impact on your ears may lead to damage to the ear drum, which may have to be repaired surgically. An accident leading to impact on the ear can move the bones in the inner ear out of alignment or may lead to more permanent damage. At most instances a minor surgery is enough to set it right.

Inhibiting medicines for severe illnesses such as cancer or aids tend to weaken your audio sensory nerves as a side effect. It may be imperative for you to use these medicines because avoiding these drugs may have a fatal effect upon your health. The thing to be done in this case is to consult your doctor for an alternative solution, who may suggest a different medicine or get you to regulate your daily intake. You may also have to risk reduced hearing if your condition demands those medicines to be taken. Your doctor should be able to take the call on this one.

Problems with hearing are numerous, but the technology and research at hand ensures that we are fully equipped today to hit the issue at the core. Just do not ignore your hearing problems. Find a good ear specialist if you feel that something is not right, restore full hearing with one of these simple solutions.

A common form of hearing loss found in people is due to accumulation of ear wax. Funny as it may seem, the process is gradual and it slowly by slowly reduces your hearing in such a manner that in many cases (you’d be surprised how many) a person doesn’t even realise that his is hearing lesser than usual. It is only when your roommates yell at you to lower the volume of the television when you yourself can barely decipher what the actor is saying, is when you realise that something is not right.

Other reasons for reduction in hearing are varied and widely result in very different root causes with the same end results. These may include an ear infection or an allergy which can cause the canal area to swell thereby obstructing the sound waves from reaching your ear. These can be taken care of by using adequate medicines to alleviate your condition and restore your hearing. Ear infections are very common in infancy, and these often result in the accumulation of some liquid in your inner ear which also harms your hearing a bit. This liquid often stays in the cavity for years and has to be surgically removed to re-establish your hearing to previously experienced levels.

When you set out to study you may also find people with damaged ear drums which may be present in the form of a hole or a break caused by an accident or as a birth defect. All of these and more can be set right with suitable medicines in most cases, and wherever not a short simple surgery should be able to solve your problem. Get more details on this from your doctor.

Accidents such as sudden blows to the ear can push the bones in the middle ear out of alignment which would then be unable to pass on the sound adequately. Though this condition is correctable easily, it’ll in most cases require a surgery on the very least.

All of the kinds of hearing losses mentioned above are a part of a category of losses that are referred to as conductive hearing loss. In addition to these, another kind of ailment experienced is Sensorinueral hearing loss which is brought about by a semi-permanent or a permanent damage to the hair in the inner ear. A little back ground information before we continue, the hair on the ear fulfils the function of converting sound vibrations into electrical impulses which can be transferred to and understood by the brain. An exposure to very loud noises on a very regular basis may lower their functioning capability, to take an example, people who work in the midst of heavy machinery all of their life or a more generic example could be musicians (you know the guys in the rock bands with all the blaring music and all). These are hard to correct with medicines or surgery and may require a suitable implant.

All of this information should be enough to get you started, now consult an ear specialist to deduce your true problem and get a solution customized to your needs.

Digital Hearing Aids

Hearing is as important a sense of a human being as any. We rely upon it for communication in every phase of life and even a little impairment in this department can end up causing severe distress. Yet it is a very prevalent problem which is found in one in every three humans in the course of their life. Prevalent as they are, more and more distinguished solutions are readily available by the day which have gone a long way in making your life easier and easier.

Two types of digital hearing aids

Hearing aids are generally of the two types, digital and analog, though with the advent of the digital devices the analog versions have found fewer takers every year. This is because the latter device has a simple amplification effect in its functioning which causes sounds of all frequencies to be equally amplified; even those that you register perfectly well. To by pass this limitation some wise men came up with a digital hearing aids that broke the frequencies into numerous different channels that could subsequently be tweaked at will to increase or decrease the level of amplification for each frequency as required.

After the base classification the hearing aids can further be classified on the basis of their size and position in which you are willing to mount them. In the ear (ITE) and Completely in Canal (CIC) hearing aids are small devices that can be slipped into your ear and canal respectively, and are used to take care of mild hearing loss. A Behind the Ear (BTE), due to its much larger size, is more efficient while trying to deal with more severe type of hearing losses; these are mounted behind your ear and carry the sound to the inner parts with the help of a thin plastic tube.

When it comes to Receiver in the ear (RITE) device or a Receiver in the canal (RIC) device, these lie somewhere in between those we have mentioned previously. These have smaller sizes and can be used to assist in countering medium to severe hearing losses. In their case, the receiver is conveniently separated from the main housing and put in the ear or the canal. This effectively makes these less bulky while keeping their effectiveness intact.

For problems that cannot be solved by using any of these we have numerous implants that you can employ. These include devices such as bone anchored hearing aids that help you bypass the outer two portions of the ear and takes the sound directly to the cochlear region for conversion to impulses. Cochlear implants on the other hand are good in cases of severe deterioration of the inner hair such that it can no longer convert the sounds into adequate electrical impulses for you to hear. These implants supplement this conversion and help in countering Sensorinueral hearing loss.

Visit your doctor for digital hearing aids

A short visit to the doctor is definitely warranted if you register anything amiss with your hearing. Get your ear examined thoroughly in order to determine the exact nature of your particular ailment and get the optimum solution.

Your hearing is dependent on numerous small but highly important parts of your body. Initially the sound passes through the outer part of your ear, quickly making its way through your ear canal area and strikes the ear drum. The ear drum vibrates with the impact and these vibrations are transmitted along to three middle ear bones which are referred to as incus, malleus and stapes collectively known as the ossicles. The bones further vibrate and the vibration eventually reaches your inner ear where they stimulate the hair inside to generate electrical impulses. These impulses are passed on the brain and are carried along by the auditory nerves.

Problems with the ears can arise from infections, forceful impacts or a general deterioration of the cochlear hair due to extended exposures to loud noises. Subsequently to counter these problems several forms of ear implants have also been developed some of which we are going to talk about over here. While a hearing aid can only take you so far, you sometimes need better equipment to put your hearing woes to rest.

A cochlear implant is used when the cochlear hair loses the capability to convert sound signals into appropriate impulses for the brain to understand. A sound processer is carried around chest height or is put somewhere near your ear. This processor would then convert usual day to day sounds into digital code which could a little later be changed to electrical impulses that are understood by your brain.

When the ossicles are too damaged to be of any use in passing on sound, then even using hearing aids would produce only muffled results. Bone anchored hearing aids solve those problems by passing the sound directly to the inner ear through a sound processer attached to the back of your head. Vibrations absorbed by the processer are passed to the cochlear area through the bones and hence allows you to have complete hearing comfort.

Electro acoustic hearing implants are made use of when a patient only suffers from a deficiency in hearing sounds of specific frequencies. A part of it resembles a hearing aid in the sense that it amplifies the lower frequency sounds while the other part works like a cochlear implant and makes up for the deficiency in the inner hair’s capability in producing impulses.

Hearing aids and hearing devices are very commonly available today. The right process to take care of any hearing problem is broadly covered in two parts. The first step is to identify the exact nature of your problem; the other is to get the right remedy for it. Through this article we have told you about all the devices you can use to restore your hearing, now rush to an ENT specialist to deduce the inner issue at work. Just remember, even the most sophisticated of hearing aids would be useless when trying to treat impacted wax, while no amount of cleaning your ear can stimulate the inner cochlear hair to start generating suitable signals.

Hearing Loss and Hearing Aids

Hearing problems are varied and hence as the situation warrants so are the solutions. There are numerous varieties of hearing aids that are available around the market, so much so, that you can get your perfect kit depending upon the nature of your problem, the severity of your hearing ailment and the level of amplification you need. Older hearing aids used to be of the analog type which simply amplified every sound that fell upon it. Though effective in their own right they had an underlying limitation in their inability to differ between different frequencies. Whenever a human being undergoes some sort of hearing impairment it is because of the ear’s inability to register certain sounds while perfectly deciphering others, thus when we used the analog machines to straightaway increase the intensity of sound it amplified frequencies that did not require amplification as well.

A digital machine put these problems to rest by dividing the different frequencies of sound into different channels thus allowing a user to change the amount of amplification done for each frequency as per his requirement. These more sophisticated devices effectively pushed the analog hearing aids out of the market with their high precision tuning. A sound regulator with these hearing aids can be used to increase or decrease the immediate volume.

Usual hearing aids come in many varieties which range from machines that can be put behind your ear to smaller devices that can conveniently be inserted into the ear or the canal. The sound amplification of a hearing aid depends upon its size hence the bigger the size the more profound its amplification and effect on hearing loss. In the ear (ITE) or completely in canal (CIC) devices are used to counter mild hearing loss but they have the advantage of being practically invisible once inserted. A short string attached to these may subsequently be used to pull the device out again whenever required.

A compromise between these two kinds of devices is achieved through the usage of receiver in the ear (RITE and a receiver in the canal (RIC) machine. These have receivers that are separated from the housing and the same are conveniently placed either in the ear or in the canal. These are strong machines with a higher level of sound increase as compared to ITE and CIC, and at the same time their reduced size as compared to the BTE is a definite plus.

When hearing aids do not seem to solve your problems you can go for an implant that is required for your problem. A cochlear implant is used to counter the inactivity of the inner ear hair, while a bone anchored hearing aid is more useful when trying to counter conductive hearing loss. Apart from these you may also use an electro-acoustic implant which is a cross between a usual hearing aid and a cochlear implant.

Get your own personalized hearing solution right now. Be it the correct sized hearing aid or a more advanced implant, now that we have this kind of technology with us there is no reason for you not to have perfect hearing at all times.
